Environmental, Health and Economic Implications of Emerging Contaminants in Nigeria Environment

The following were the identified and defined classes of emerging contaminants concern (ECCs): pharmaceutical personal care products (PPCPs), perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), plasticizers, agrochemicals, industrial additives agents (IAAs), flame retardants (FRs), Nanopar-ticles (NPs), steroids hormones, gasoline additives. From 1983 to 1990, an estimated 15,000 metric tons pesticides reported have been imported annually. In 2016, a yearly application about 130,000 was for Nigeria. Nigeria’s imports worth USD128.671 in that year. Of applied pesticides, 85% ended environment as contaminants/pollutants. While few individuals households or neighbourhoods deal with almost all human beings PPCPs. PPCPs are taken prevent cure diseases and/or sustain wellbeing. Nigeria produced 30 % its demands while 70% imported. 2012, 2013 2014, USD425 million, USD481 million USD530 respectively. 2018, USD606.31 total amount pharmaceuticals procured USD866.16 million. Almost candidates ECCs had detected Nigerian environment. Untoward episodes abuse ranging from death, profiled. Some factors responsible these weak regulatory instruments on accessing bad economy, stigmatization lack resilience.
